Working with Embody Lib was seamless and easy, Patrilie was responsive and kept to the deadlines and schedule as we prepared for our conference. Embody Lib gave a well-organized presentation for a virtual audience of 400, where they were well received and appreciated…I appreciated the explanation and visuals provided, intersectionality can be a challenging topic to visualize.I’d recommend this speaker to anyone or any group interested in furthering their journey towards equity and anti-racism.
— Deirdre, Executive Chair for the Interagency Committee of State Employed Women
I reached out to Embody Lib because I knew of Patrilie’s exceptional thought leadership in the eating disorder field through an intersectional justice lens. Working with Patrilie was a dream - they bring such a depth of experience and knowledge about the many intersections of thought that are required to ethically navigate the eating disorder space, both as it exists and as it should be. Any person or organization that is seeking to expand their thinking and improve their processes regarding food, body, culture, or systems would surely find Embody Lib a highly valuable partner. As a nonprofit, we paid...for a 3-hour workshop that was thoughtfully planned and executed by a true professional - we can’t recommend Embody Lib highly enough!
— Rebecca, Executive Director of Project HEAL
We invited Patrilie to present...because of [their] unique perspective on the intersections of the food justice movement and biases that keep many from participating in this important work and receiving help that actually addresses issues like food insecurity, eating disorders, healthcare, etc. Our goal...was to shine a light on the food justice movement’s history and how weight stigma and anti-fatness has kept the movement exclusionary – [they] did not disappoint. Patrilie generously shared [their] extensive knowledge of the movement, research and [their] lived experience to illustrate a movement steeped in beliefs that create harm.
— Chevese, Co-creator & host, Weight Stigma Awareness Week
I reached out to Embody Lib because I didn’t know where to start in educating health sciences students on size-inclusive healthcare practices. Before connecting with Patrilie I had little guidance on how to discuss size inclusion with health sciences students who learn little about working specifically with larger patients, and what little they do learn is overwhelmingly fatphobic. After the session...attendees were able to name ... ways providers can reduce weight stigma when interacting with patients in their practice. I received very positive feedback from attendees about Patrilie, her presentation, and the information she presented. I hope many more medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing, and other health sciences institutions work with Embody Lib to bring this important topic to their students, faculty, and staff!
— Alison, Community Engagement Specialist at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center
Working with Patrilie was both inspiring and easy. Her pre-workshop assessment process was thoughtful and effective, allowing her to tailor the workshop to the needs of our diverse audience. As a result, we felt confident knowing what to expect and how she would engage our audience...I especially loved how she centered storytelling and story sharing as a way to build community during the workshop. If you’re looking for a facilitator who pairs expertise on food systems and identities with a warm and welcoming energy that shines through (even on Zoom!), you should definitely work with Patrilie.
— Carina, Foodcorps
Working with Patrilie was incredible. From the moment Patrilie and I connected over the virtual platform, I knew she was the person who could bring my vision to light. Throughout every step of the process (2+ months of working together), Patrilie was communicative and checked in on my vision multiple times...The work was absolutely felt by myself and our workshop participants...The entire experience was so special. I cannot wait to work with Patrilie again.
— MC, Hopeworks of Howard County
As a theatre artist, I have been in MANY spaces where I have been encouraged to check in with my body and think about my relationship to my body. However, I always struggled with being able to find these spaces helpful and fulfilling for me...Embody Lib was nothing like the white-centric spaces I had been asked to engage with my body and my health in before. I was given the space to think about my inner conflict with my body and health, not just as a manifestation of colonialism and white supremacy but as an extension of my rebellion against these forces. As a result of our virtual time together I felt empowered to finally embrace keeping my body healthy as an act of rebellion against the forces that try to eradicate Black and brown bodies like mine...I am grateful for Embody Lib for giving me the space to work through this internalized harm in a way other facilitators could not have.
— -Adam, New Leaders Council
Patrilie is the first person I thought of when I wanted to bring a deeper understanding of food, culture, and liberation to our training community. The mainstream narrative and treatment philosophy in healthcare is oppressive and continues to perpetuate harm. Patrilie provided us in-depth learning of their Food Access Model and the critical need for providers to incorporate the ‘power of food and the power of people’. Food justice is necessary for body liberation and Patrilie has provided us with the information and tools we need to provide inclusive care to our clients and to the collective. I am beyond grateful for being able to work with Patrilie and strongly believe in the work of Embody Lib. If you believe everyone should have the right to equitable access to healthcare, nutrition, and should be able to be at peace in their bodies, then you simply must hire Patrilie.”
— Neathery, Founder + CEO of Ample + Rooted
I initially reached out to Patrilie after seeing their content on Instagram. I’m personally interested in body liberation and abolitionist perspectives on eating disorder prevention/treatment. So, when I needed to create programming for EDAW as a co-chair on the [REDACTED], I wanted to tap into some of the voices that had inspired and educated me—like Patrilie’s! My goal was to provide an introduction into this world for folks who might not have heard of body liberation before, and Patrilie did a phenomenal job. They were incredibly organized, thoughtful, responsive, considerate, and collaborative every step of the way. I thought Patrilie’s work was a great fit for our organization, and I especially appreciated the materials they curated for us (particularly the presentation deck and participant workbook.) Patrilie offered us so much value...
— Sarah, Project Manager
I have been following Patrilie and her work for several years, and I appreciate that she brings both personal and professional experience and expertise when it comes to the topics of social justice and fat liberation...It was obvious that she took a lot of care in preparing for our workshop, from the customized workbook to the moderated Q&A. As a result of the workshop, I have updated my intake forms to include questions that address food security and access to compassionate care. I feel that any professionals that would like to integrate a social-justice lens to their work would benefit from working with Patrilie.
